How to Find and Install Your Google Ads Tag
The Google tag lets you measure and improve your ads. Here is where to find it and how to install it with Google Tag Manager, no coding needed.
If you run Google Ads for your dental practice, install your Google tag on your website. It is what lets you track and measure the performance of your ads, and it helps improve that performance too.
Here is how to find it and install it with Google Tag Manager. No coding is needed.
Before you start
You need a Google Tag Manager account, with the Tag Manager code already installed on your website. Without that, anything you publish in Tag Manager never reaches your site.
Step 1: Find your Google tag
- In your Google Ads account, open the Tools menu.
- Go to Data manager.
- Find your Google tag and click Manage. If it says "no data", the tag isn't installed on your website yet.
- Open Installation instructions and choose Install manually.
- Copy the tag ID from the code shown.
Step 2: Add it in Tag Manager
- In Google Tag Manager, go to Tags and click New.
- Give the tag a name, such as "Google Tag".
- Click Tag configuration and choose Google Tag.
- Paste in your tag ID.
- Set the trigger to All Pages, so the tag fires on every page.
- Save.
Step 3: Test before you publish
The tag isn't live yet. Check it first:
- Click Preview.
- Enter your website address and connect.
- In the debug view, confirm your new Google tag is listed as fired.
Step 4: Publish
Click Submit, add a short description of the change, and click Publish. Your Google tag is now live on your website.
