Get More Calls From Google Ads With Mobile-Only Campaigns

Most calls to a dental practice come from phones, yet most campaigns spread budget across every device. One setting fixes that.

If your ads are not making the phone ring, check where your budget is going by device.

When you create a campaign, your budget is spread across desktop, tablet and mobile. But most phone calls come from people on a phone. Many advertisers don't realize they can run a campaign on mobile only.

Check your own numbers first

Open a campaign and segment by device. You will see impressions, clicks and cost split across computers, mobile phones and tablets.

In the dental accounts I manage, mobile usually gets the largest share of impressions and clicks, and converts into phone calls far better than the other devices. Check whether that is true for you before changing anything.

How to make a campaign mobile only

This uses a setting called a device bid adjustment. It sounds technical, but it takes a minute.

  1. Select the campaign.
  2. Go to Insights and reports, then When and where ads showed.
  3. Find the Bid adjustment column.
  4. On the Computers row, click the pencil icon.
  5. Change Increase to Decrease, and enter 100%.
  6. Save.

A 100% decrease makes your bid zero on that device, so you stop spending on desktop. Do the same for tablets if you want to.

All of your budget now goes to the devices that generate calls.

If you want me to look at your account and tell you what I would fix first, book a strategy call.
