Google Ads for Dentists: 3 Proven Strategies to Boost New Patients
You do not need to spend more on Google Ads. You need to spend smarter. Three changes that make an underperforming account work.
If you are running Google Ads and new patients are only trickling in, your services are not the problem. How you promote them is. Many practices are a few small changes away from a consistent flow of good patients.
You don't need to spend more. You need to spend smarter. Here are three changes.
1. Focus on priority services
Stop diluting your campaigns with every service you offer. Be deliberate about the ones most likely to bring in new patients.
I helped one dentist move from broad, vague keywords that were never going to convert to mobile-centric phrases like "dentist near me" and "emergency dentist near me". That one change doubled their booked calls within 30 days.
Identify your top one or two priority services, the ones with the best return. Build campaigns around just those, with clear messaging and a matching landing page. Google's algorithm gets a sharper signal to optimize around, and your budget goes to real appointments.
2. Tighten your location targeting
You don't want your ads seen everywhere. You want them seen by the people most likely to walk through your door.
One practice I reviewed had ads showing across an entire metro area. We trimmed the targeting to a 7 mile zone around the clinic. Their conversion rate rose by 45%, and they spent less.
Set a focused radius, usually 5 to 10 miles depending on your city. Then use the location report to cut zip codes that aren't converting.
3. Set a budget that produces real data
Low budgets don't protect your wallet. They drag the process out and tell you nothing.
I audited an account running $10 a day with clicks costing around $8. It spent weeks collecting enough data to evaluate anything. When they raised the budget to $50 a day for a proper test, they had usable data in about five days, and could confidently back what worked and stop what didn't.
Aim for about $1,000 to $1,500 over 30 days. That gives Google room to optimize and gives you the clarity to cut what underperforms and scale what converts.
It is not about spending more. It is about spending with purpose.
If you want me to look at your account and tell you what I would fix first, book a strategy call.
