The Google Ads Strategy That Actually Gets Dental Clinics Patients

Most dental campaigns are built to generate website traffic, not patients. These five steps turn clicks into booked appointments.

If you are spending on Google Ads and the front desk is still quiet, the usual reason is that the campaigns were built to generate website traffic, not patients.

Here are the five steps I use to get booked appointments. In one dental account I manage, this approach generated more than 80 new patients in 30 days from under $3,000 in ad spend.

Step 1: Show up for the right phrases

If your ad shows when someone searches "at-home teeth whitening", you have wasted that click. They told you in the search that they don't want to come into a clinic.

The clicks that become patients show intent: "dentist near me" or "same day tooth extraction". Build your campaigns around phrases with urgency and booking intent.

Step 2: Get location targeting right

It is tempting to target a whole city. But most patients won't travel across a city for a dental appointment, especially for a checkup or an emergency. They want someone nearby.

Use radius targeting or zip codes to focus on your best neighborhoods. When ads only show where your patients live and work, every dollar goes further.

Also change the default location option. The default includes people who have "shown interest in" your area. Choose the option limited to people who are in or regularly in your locations.

Step 3: Structure the account properly

Running a whole practice from one campaign is like using one toothbrush for the whole office.

New patients, emergencies and high-ticket cosmetic services each need their own ad copy, budget, keywords and usually their own landing page.

Ad groups hold your keywords, and the ad is attached to the ad group. So each ad group should contain keywords on one theme, with an ad that matches. Then split campaigns by patient type or service. That gives you control over budget, tracking and targeting, and it produces better click-through and conversion rates because the ad matches what the person typed.

Step 4: Focus on mobile

In the dental accounts I manage, mobile accounts for more than 80% of impressions, clicks and leads. If you are not set up for mobile, you are missing most of your potential patients.

That means mobile-friendly landing pages, click-to-call and fast load times. Phone users don't want to zoom in or hunt for your number. Design for the thumb, not the mouse.

Step 5: Put an ad in Google Maps

When someone types "dentist near me", the first thing they tap is often the map listing, not a search ad. If you are not there with a clear call button, you are invisible.

Link your Google Business Profile to your Google Ads account and enable location assets. I cover the steps in how to get your ads to show in Google Maps.

If you want me to look at your account and tell you what I would fix first, book a strategy call.
